Outrigger Canoeing and Indigenous People Celebration

Summer 2019, 2022 and 2023. Sponsored by JOPP and The Wahines for Richmond Dramatic Arts Students. A day in the San Francisco Bay of fun and education. A collaboration of Joe Orrach for JOPP, Kwesi Anku for the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts and Captain Maggie Hallahan. Students and some parents participate. We learn about water safety skills, the ecology of the San Francisco Bay and the outrigger canoe in Hawaiian culture. Then we all actually navigate the outrigger  in Aquatic Park and the San Francisco Bay.  A glorious time for all.
